Set against the steady rhythm of the Indian Ocean and the enduring
resilience of the women who have shaped Galle’s social fabric for
generations, UN Women finds its purpose in lived reality rather than
abstraction. Established in 2010, UN Women was created to unify and
strengthen the United Nations’ work on gender equality and the
empowerment of women, serving as a global advocate, coordinator, and
catalyst for change.
From fishing communities along the
southern coast to conflict-affected regions across the world, women have
long borne the unseen weight of instability, displacement, and
violence—often without voice or visibility. At SDIMUN, UN Women has been
chosen because From Galle to Globe is not merely a geographical journey,
but a recognition that local struggles echo within global systems, and
that equity begins by listening to those most affected. This committee
calls upon delegates to engage with empathy, policy awareness, and a
grounded understanding of institutional limits.
Here,
progress is shaped not through enforcement, but through coordination,
advocacy, and capacity-building. Delegates are not enforcers of justice,
but architects of frameworks that enable it—working to ensure that
dignity, protection, and opportunity are not privileges, but shared
global commitments.
