Set against the quiet charm of a weathered maritime anchor outside the
Galle Maritime Archaeology Museum, UNESCO’s story begins not with
grandeur, but with heritage rooted in memory. Established in 1945, the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has
safeguarded humanity’s intellectual and cultural inheritance — from
world heritage sites to global literacy, scientific cooperation, and
cultural preservation.
At SDIMUN, UNESCO has been selected
because our theme,
From Galle to Globe, reflects a larger truth:
even the smallest artefact from a coastal city tells a story that
belongs to the world. This committee reminds us that heritage is not
only what we preserve — it is what we learn from, protect, and carry
forward.
Delegates are expected to debate with sensitivity,
depth, and a custodial mindset. Here, you are guardians of identity,
stewards of knowledge, and architects of a future shaped by shared
humanity.
